The Empire State Building is located at 350 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, New York City, USA. Simply put, New York is the largest city and the largest port in the United States, along with Hong Kong, China, and London, England, known as the Port of New York.
Manhattan, on the other hand, is one of the most densely populated areas of New York City, with most of the city's 300-plus skyscrapers concentrated here. It is home to most of the Fortune 500 companies and is known as the economic center of the world.
And Fifth Avenue is the busiest shopping street in the center of Manhattan, with a total length of 11 kilometers and as many as 260 world brands stationed here. The annual rent for stores here is as high as RMB 70,000 per square meter, making it the most expensive shopping street on the planet.
To build a landmark building in such a place, you can imagine the strength and background of this company. The company that built it is American General Motors. So why did this car-making company want to build the world's first building? This story is also related to his car-building industry.
In 1926, Chrysler planned a 320-meter-high, 77-story skyscraper in Manhattan. His appearance is like a car radiator cap ornament, in order to show the strength of the car brand.
In order to build the building, the land alone is not enough but also requires the relevant approval procedures of the building department. For this reason, in 1929, the General Motors Group established the Empire State Corporation for the building.
For this reason, the GM Group revised the design five times and finally set the height at 282 meters and 102 floors. Their goal was to beat all competitors at their most extreme.
The building was required to be built using more efficient steel prefabricated panels in order to be more appealing to the public eye.
Workers simply put the prefabricated panels together and lock them in a place like building blocks. With this method, an average of four floors could be built upward each week, compared to the seven days it would have taken to build a floor using traditional steel and concrete pouring.
Construction of the Empire State Building began in 1930, during which 3,400 workers were hired, 60,000 tons of steel, and 10 million bricks were used. Seventy-three high-speed elevators with a capacity of 82 meters per minute were also installed. To ensure that these materials could be delivered in time, the General Group also built a temporary railroad for the building.
On May 1, 1931, the Empire State Building became the first skyscraper in the world to exceed 100 stories in height.
This should be the most glorious moment of the Empire State Building, but later the building has not been very smooth.
Today the Empire State Building is the most famous attraction in New York City, attracting more than 5 million visitors each year to commemorate the occasion. There are more than 1,000 world-famous companies working inside, and his ticket price, which has risen from one dollar to $43.50, is one of the irreplaceable buildings in the United States.
