The Five Lands of Italy, consisting of five small villages by the sea and mountains, were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 1997 and named a National Park in 1999.
The Five Lands are scattered along the long and charming coastline of the western Apennines, with romantic and dazzling turquoise waters, pebble-like white sandy beaches, and colorful and beautiful houses.
This is the largest network in the Mediterranean basin. Because of the blue waters on one side and the cliffs on the other, The Five Lands are also known as the "Garden of Eden on the Cliff"! The best part is that there are Five Lands with five different ways to play.
Five Lands, located in the Liguria region of Italy, is the western sea coast of the province of La Spezia. The Five Lands are the collective name for the five cliffside villages of Monterosso al Mare, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola, and Riomaggiore.
The Five Lands are most famous for a popular photo - the sunset, and starry lights illuminate the entire cliffside of Five Lands. Because of this photo, which is called the "world's most beautiful sunset", countless travel enthusiasts have come from far and wide to take the same photo for themselves.
To get a better perspective, you can stay in Manarola. The houses in Manarola are all very bright: the building windows and doors are generally green or blue to harmonize with the sea and sky and green trees; the houses are generally pink-yellow or pink, with yellow always leaning against dark brown, which succeeds in a good design and disposal of contrasting and similar colors.
It seems that the people of The Five Lands are successful color matches. Why did the fishermen paint their houses with such vivid pigments? Upon inquiry, we learned that there is a romantic and warm secret hidden behind.
It turns out that whenever the fishermen leave their homes in their boats to go fishing in the vast ocean, the colors of the orientation of their homes on the cliffs will disappear. In order to return home with a full load, they can see their home from afar, the local fishermen began to paint their houses with colorful paint, and gradually, the colorful five-fishing village was formed.
These ancient and romantic colors have been deeply loved by poets such as Shelley, Byron, George Sand, and Rollins. Many poets and artists have come to the village to find inspiration and sources of artistic creation, which has also given it the reputation of "Poet's Cove".
Vernazza is located on an impressive cliffside. Today, Vernazza is just a peaceful seaside village, listed as one of the "100 most beautiful villages and towns" in Italy, with incredible small streets, colorful houses in dark red, pink, and lemon, and many fine and elegant buildings.
In the long history of the Ligurian region, Vernazza stands out for its urban pattern. The traditional tower-shaped houses, built along the river valley and stretching to the top of the rocky promontory, were only accessible by boat in the past to enjoy the beauty of the village.
One of the best features of Vernazza is that it is the starting point of the famous hiking trail "The Way of Love". The colorful houses on the cliffs of Vernazza are as beautiful as a fairy tale in the sunlight, so it is no wonder that people have cut a path through the cliffs here, with the mountain rocks on one side and the rippling waters of the Ligurian Sea on the other.
This is the famous "Road of Love", from here you can go all the way to the previous village, at the entrance there is a kiss statue, the surrounding parapets are full of concentric locks, but unfortunately when we went to the Road of Love maintenance road closure, only through the iron fence gate to look in, as if the eyes of the heart also flew over the same.
